Castle Varkesh

Every portrait has been scraped blank, but the blue fires still illuminate the faces that used to be there.

25 roomscastlemedium

Castle Varkesh is a half-collapsed East Askian keep whose upper halls remain deceptively orderly. Beneath its ruined courtrooms and servants' quarters, a minor vampire lord maintains a starving household of undead, blood-bound retainers, and preserved relics from a vanished homeland.

Cold stone sweats beneath a skin of red mold. Wax, grave dust, and old iron scent the air, while distant footfalls travel through the walls and shuttered braziers flare with blue corpse-fire.

☠ Threat

Lord Brastik of Szkara rules the ruin from the Hall of Red Windows, surrounded by a small court of lesser vampires and corpse-servants. He is dangerous but not yet secure in his power. Every feeding ritual strengthens the sealed founder beneath the chapel, and Brastik will sacrifice intruders, servants, or even his own court to complete the restoration.

History

Castle Varkesh was raised by the Varkesh glass guild, immigrants from the inland city of Szkara, whose craftsmen built a fortified manor around their furnaces and workshops. Generations later, Baron Gheron invited a foreign physician named Brastik into the household. Brastik became a vampire, enthralled the surviving family, and converted the keep into a hidden court.
