The Bell-Dry Vault

The first thing you notice is the bronze vibration under your boots, like a bell ringing far below the world.

14 roomsruinshard

The Bell-Dry Vault is a buried ruin of a watch-temple built beneath a collapsed hill fort. Its chambers preserve the final days of a garrison that tried to imprison a voice from beneath the earth, and the old restraints are beginning to fail.

Cold air drifts through cracked stone, carrying the smell of wet iron, old vellum, and extinguished incense. Somewhere below, a bronze bell gives a soft tremor without ever ringing, while pale light leaks from mineral seams in the walls.

☠ Threat

Below the final chamber waits Ketu Understone, once a miner and later the oracle's first willing mouth. Centuries of whispered commands have hollowed him into a gaunt, bronze-veined prophet who can animate corpses and compel the living to kneel. He seeks the broken bell fragments so the buried oracle can speak through every settlement above.

History

The vault was built by the hill fort's bell-keepers after miners broke into a hollow chamber beneath the ridge. They found a buried oracle that answered every question with a command, then used bronze bells, prison cells, and false shrine rooms to bind it. When the garrison abandoned the fort during a winter siege, the last keeper sealed the complex and left the oracle without a living voice to obey.
