Lithic Hollow
The echoes of leather wings never truly fade in the damp dark.
A winding network of limestone caverns once inhabited by a fringe cult obsessed with avian transcendence. Now, the damp caves are reclaimed by nature and a monstrous, multi-winged predator.
The air is heavy with the scent of damp limestone and guano. Water drips constantly from stalactites, creating a rhythmic tapping sound that masks the approach of predators. Most areas are pitch black, illuminated only by patches of phosphorescent moss.
☠ Threat
The Malformed Gryph, a mutated apex predator with four massive wings, dominates the ecosystem of the cave. It moves with unnatural speed between the ceiling cracks, picking off intruders who venture too deep. Its screech can cause temporary deafness, and it views the entire cavern system as its personal larder.
History
Lithic Hollow was originally a site of pilgrimage for the Order of the Soaring Wing, a group of subterranean ascetics who believed that growing wings was the ultimate spiritual evolution. Their rituals attracted a hideous mutation from the Underdark: a four-winged beast that slaughtered the monks and made the lowest chamber its lair. Today, only the crumbling shrines and the monsters remain.
