The Howling Monoliths
The wind carries a plea that stone was never meant to speak.
An ancient network of subterranean canyons where obsidian pillars vibrate with a haunting, vocal resonance. The air is cold and smells of dry sage, carrying the faint scent of ozone from the vibrating stone.
The air is a constant, biting draft that whistles through narrow cracks. The sound is a rhythmic, low-frequency hum that vibrates in the player's marrow, occasionally spiking into a high-pitched sob. Light is dim, provided only by rare patches of phosphorescent lichen.
☠ Threat
A fragmented Air Spirit known as the Whistling Echo. While it cannot manifest fully, it animates the dust and wind within the chambers to defend its 'prison.' It seeks a mortal vessel to carry its essence back to the surface, using its mournful cries to manipulate those who enter the depths.
History
Centuries ago, a sect of wind-worshipers carved these monoliths to act as celestial tuning forks, hoping to hear the music of the spheres. They succeeded too well, accidentally trapping a fragment of a dying air spirit within the stone network. Now, as the stones erode, the spirit's cries for release have begun to mimic human speech, luring the curious to their doom.
