Serpentroot Cave
The stone hisses, the roots drink blood, and something ancient stirs beneath the altar.
This cave complex has been hollowed into a yuan-ti nesting den, with old shrine work repurposed into a place of captivity and sacrifice. The lower chambers are fortified, trapped, and crawling with serpents, while the deepest chamber houses the brood's fanatical leader and the relic they protect.
The cave breathes warm, damp air that smells of wet stone, crushed leaves, and old reptile musk. Faint hissing echoes through the passages, mixed with the drip of water, the rustle of roots, and the occasional scrape of something scaled moving just beyond torchlight.
☠ Threat
A yuan-ti brood leader named Ssathra the Coil-Blessed rules the cave through fear, venom, and ritual. She is completing a blood rite to awaken an ancestral serpent spirit bound beneath the stone, and her priests use prisoners, living plants, and venomous guardians to keep intruders disoriented until the rite is finished.
History
Centuries ago, a frontier snake cult carved these caves into a hidden temple and prison for captives taken from river settlements. When the cult collapsed, the yuan-ti took the site, preserving its shrines and cells while twisting them into a breeding pit, execution chamber, and sanctum for their blood rites.
