Ironshackle Bastion
The clank of iron echoes longer than the screams.
A decaying fortress partially reclaimed by the mountainside, now serving as a tomb for its former occupiers. Heavy iron doors and oppressive masonry create a claustrophobic atmosphere for any who enter.
The air is damp and smells of wet stone and old iron. Lighting is provided by sporadic green spectral torches that cast long, flickering shadows. The constant sound of water dripping from the ceiling creates a rhythmic tapping like distant footsteps.
☠ Threat
The ghostly influence of Captain Malcor, whose greed binds him to the material plane as a Wight, and his loyal undead guards who still perform their rounds. The bastion's very walls seem to sap the warmth from the living, fueling the spectral hunger of its inhabitants.
History
Originally a border outpost for a forgotten king, this castle was seized by the mercenary captain Malcor 'The Iron Crow'. He converted the lower halls into a fortified vault and high-security dungeon for political prisoners. Following a bloody siege that left no survivors, the site remained sealed, its riches protected by the restless spirits of those who died in the cages.
