Kett and Ford Mine
The walls whisper the last shift's names, then something deep below answers with a pick strike.
The Kett and Ford Mine was abandoned after its miners broke into a vein of blue-black crystal that seemed to remember every death underground. The old workings now shelter starving scavengers, restless dead, and a foreman who has become something far worse than a ghost.
Cold air drifts through the mine, carrying wet stone, lamp oil, and the iron stink of old blood. Timber supports creak without wind, distant picks strike by themselves, and pale blue fungus gives the lower passages a weak, underwater glow.
☠ Threat
Foreman Varkel, the mine's dead overseer, haunts the lowest shaft as a crystal-bound revenant. He commands tools, chains, and the memories trapped in the walls, seeking living bodies to wear so he can reopen the mine and force every nearby settlement into his remembered work crew.
History
The mine was cut into a blunt ridge called Kett and Ford after two rival prospectors found the same silver seam and were forced into an unwilling partnership. Beneath the first workings, miners uncovered blue-black crystal that stored voices and sensations. Foreman Varkel sealed the discovery, used prisoners for experiments, and continued digging until the crystal absorbed his dying rage.

Old survey marks run along the walls, with fresh chalk arrows pointing toward Room 14. Several arrows have been crossed out and replaced with frantic circles.
A narrow ore cart track emerges from the floor, vanishing beneath doors and reappearing at odd angles. Any cart placed upon it rolls toward the deepest chamber.
Iron bells hang from the ceiling at ankle height, their clappers wrapped in strips of miners' clothing. Disturbing one produces a faint whisper from Room 14.
Black crystal seams pulse faintly beneath the rock. Touching one leaves a temporary numbness in the fingers and draws nearby vermin.
