The Verdant Gullet
The canopy swallows the sun, and the roots remember every drop of blood.
A dense, unnatural corridor of interlocking brambles and ancient oaks forms a living tunnel through the forest. The path terminates in a deceptive clearing where the forest's dark heart resides, surrounded by walls of razor-sharp thorns.
The air is heavy with the smell of damp earth and crushed pine needles. Shadows flicker as the canopy overhead shifts in a wind that cannot be felt below, and bioluminescent fungi provide a dim, sickly green glow.
☠ Threat
A corrupted Treant named Barkspite has merged with an Elder Oblex, creating a hive-mind that uses the forest's vegetation to lure and consume travelers. The very ground and walls are sentient and hungry. This entity seeks to expand the Verdant Gullet until it consumes the surrounding villages, turning every living soul into a mindless leaf-drone for its growing arboreal empire.
History
Centuries ago, a druidic sect known as the Iron Thorn sought to protect their sacred grove from imperial loggers. They used forbidden life-magic to weave the forest into a defensive labyrinth. Over time, the magic curdled, and the guardians became as predatory as the forces they once fought. Now, the grove exists only to feed upon the living, directed by a malice that has taken root in the ancient wood.
