Kettai Crypt
Blue lights tremble across the first stone, and somewhere below, a bronze army counts your footsteps.
The crypt of the drowned imperial engineer Shibai was built beneath a drained salt marsh and now descends through nine defended levels. Its galleries hold embalmed officials, clockwork guardians, and a buried command engine that still believes the empire survives.
Cold air carries the smell of iron, lamp oil, and old dust. Blue corpse-lights burn in bronze sockets, while distant stone knocks and the measured tread of unseen constructs travel through the crypt.
☠ Threat
Shibai Kurogane survives as the command intelligence within the Iron Regent, a towering funerary construct sealed in room 48. Its orders are simple: preserve the crypt, erase intruders, and rebuild the empire beneath the earth. Every damaged guardian feeds tactical information to the Regent, making later encounters more coordinated and more lethal.
History
The crypt was built by Shibai Kurogane, an imperial engineer from the western salt provinces, after he was denied a place among the royal ancestors. He drained the Kettai marsh, dismantled its village, and raised a descending tomb staffed by obedient bronze servants. Shibai filled each level with records, weapons, and tests meant to prove that his designs surpassed the living court.
