Valerius Vault
The dust of a thousand years settles on eyes that never close.
A subterranean network of burial chambers and ritual halls carved into the grey bedrock of the Whispering Hills. The air is stagnant, smelling of dry rot and ancient incense that refuses to fade.
The vault is chilled by a supernatural frost that ignores thick cloaks. Pale blue torchlight flickers in the distance but generates no heat, while the constant, low-frequency hum of necromantic energy vibrates in the teeth of all who enter.
☠ Threat
The High Inquisitor Valerius, now a powerful Wight, commands the vault from his throne of bone. He is not merely a mindless undead; he possesses a cruel intelligence and seeks to harvest the souls of intruders to fuel a ritual of eternal darkness. His influence causes the dead to rise repeatedly, making any progress through the crypt a grueling war of attrition.
History
The Valerius Vault was commissioned by a paranoid merchant prince who feared his wealth would be stolen in death. He hired necromancers to bind his household staff to the stone, ensuring they would serve as eternal guardians. Over the centuries, the original purpose was forgotten as the necromantic energies seeped into the surrounding earth, drawing in wandering spirits and corrupting the very masonry.
