The Shattered Watchtower

Beneath the broken tower, frightened kobolds feed a sleeping warden made of crystal and bone.

18 roomsruinsmedium

The Shattered Watchtower is a buried ruin beneath a collapsed frontier fort, now occupied by kobolds who have uncovered an ancient relic. Its upper halls are crumbling and poorly defended, but sealed shrines and hidden vaults descend toward a chamber where the ruin's former guardian is beginning to awaken.

Cold dust hangs in the air, mixed with the smell of wet stone, old ash, and kobold musk. Weak daylight enters through cracked ceilings near the entrance, while deeper chambers glow with guttering candles, red mineral veins, and the faint blue shimmer of buried magic. Every footstep carries through the ruins, followed by distant chittering and the scrape of claws on stone.

☠ Threat

Commander Veyr, the Cracked Warden, lies bound within the deepest chamber. Once a mortal fortress commander, he fused his soul to the star fragment and now commands the ruin's red crystals, dead wardens, and frightened kobold inhabitants. He cannot leave while the seals hold, but every disturbed shrine weakens them. The kobolds unknowingly feed the relic with stolen blood and animal sacrifices.

History

The Shattered Watchtower was raised two centuries ago by the Dawnwardens, a small order tasked with containing a fallen star fragment found beneath the hills. They built shrines, prisons, and sealed vaults around it, but the commander eventually sought the fragment's power. His ritual failed, killing the wardens and transforming him into a crystalline undead guardian. Earthquakes buried the fortress, leaving only broken halls for later scavengers.
