The Obsidian Gullet
The very walls of this chasm seem to pulse with a slow, grinding hunger.
A jagged limestone cavern system that hums with a low, vibrating resonance that rattles the teeth of those who enter. The walls are slick with a bioluminescent moss that mimics the look of pulsing veins, illuminating the dark with a sickly green glow.
The air is heavy with the scent of damp copper and wet slate. Rhythmic thumping sounds like a distant heartbeat echo through the passages, and the temperature is stiflingly humid despite the depth.
☠ Threat
A corrupted Dao named Zaryth has claimed the deepest reach of the cave, drawing the mineral wealth of the surrounding region into the gullet. Zaryth's presence has warped the local earth, turning the cavern into a semi-sentient digestive tract that slowly petrifies intruders to facilitate easier consumption by his Xorn servants.
History
Originally a series of natural tunnels, it was expanded by a sect of cultists who worshipped a gargantuan earth elemental known as the Gnasher. They believed that by feeding the earth gems and blood, they could prevent tectonic cataclysms. Eventually, the entity's hunger outgrew their sacrifices, and it consumed its worshippers, leaving their stone-bound spirits behind.
