Kharad Pit

Blue light pulses beneath the floor, and every abandoned pick points toward the dark below.

23 rooms✦mine✦medium

The Kharad Pit is an abandoned silver mine whose lower workings were converted into a prison and ritual complex. The old miners' roads still connect storehouses, cells, shrines, and vaults, but something beneath the mine has begun sending workers' tools crawling back toward the surface.

“
Cold iron air, wet stone, and the bitter smell of lamp oil fill the mine. Timbers creak without wind, distant picks strike in uneven rhythms, and pale blue fungus throws broken light across rails, winches, and black pools of water.

☠ Threat

The deepest chamber is guarded by the Pit Warden, once a guild engineer called Boru Pell. The crystal has fused metal, bone, and living stone through his body, leaving him strong enough to command tools and collapse tunnels. He believes every intruder is a saboteur and uses the mine itself as a weapon, sealing exits and driving crystal-maddened creatures toward the upper rooms.

History

The Kharad Pit was cut into the mountain by the Kharad Guild, named for Kharad Vesk, a surveyor remembered only in damaged payrolls. Silver drew the first crews downward, but they uncovered a singing blue crystal that altered stone and flesh. The guild built cells and shrines around it, imprisoning specialists who could maintain the seals. After a cave-in killed the overseers, the mine was abandoned with the crystal still awake.
