The Bone-Scribe's Vault
Silence is a heavy shroud where the dead refuse to sleep.
A subterranean network of limestone chambers filled with the calcified remains of an ancient monastic order. The air is unnaturally dry, preserving both the parchment of their records and the marrow in their bones.
The air tastes of bitter dust and old incense. Flickering blue torchlight casts long, jittery shadows against the walls. A faint, rhythmic scratching sound echoes from the vents, sounding like dozens of quills writing at once.
☠ Threat
Varkas the Rattle-Tongue, a desperate mage's apprentice, is using a cracked soul-gem to reanimate the monks. While he is not yet a master of the dead, the gem's unstable energy creates erratic, aggressive skeletons that guard the deeper chambers. His presence has caused the very walls to weep a black, oily ichor that attracts vermin.
History
Built three centuries ago by the Order of the Silent Pen, this crypt served as both a library and a final resting place for monks who took vows of total silence. After a localized earthquake sealed the main entrance, the monks perished within. Recently, a low-level necromancer named Varkas has broken the seal, seeking to turn their forbidden histories into dark power.
