The tax cart lies on its side, its mule screaming against the reins while goblins drag a locked chest toward the raised gate. A huge bugbear steps into the road and points its morningstar at you. One goblin cuts the cart’s lamp free, ready to burn the ledgers if the chest cannot be taken.

Terrain Levers
- Cut the rope holding the toll bell: the bell crashes down, blocking a 10-foot square.
- Kick loose the stacked paving stones: one creature in the ditch must make a DC 12 Dexterity save or fall prone.
- Pull the half-rotted gate lever: the iron gate drops across the road, creating half cover and splitting the field.
