Leverage

The Avatar can restore the Heart only through honest choices; clever loopholes dim the platforms and count as failures.

Player Approaches
  • Ask a hero what they refuse to lose.
  • Ask what their character would willingly let the world forget.
  • Offer a platform a personal memory from a hero's backstory.
  • Let one hero support another's declaration to turn a failure into a success, but both must reveal a truth.
  • Place hands together on the Heart Avatar to begin the unified focus.
NPC Gambits
  • One character makes a DC 18 Wisdom (Insight) check to identify Preservation, Release, and Transformation.
  • Each hero declares which theme resonates with their character; two matching choices form a bond, while a third unique choice anchors the final rite.
  • Each hero makes a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw; on a success, they expend a Hit Die or surrender a prized nonmagical item into the basin.
  • The group makes a collective DC 16 Wisdom saving throw; count successes equal to at least half the party.
  • Each hero speaks one truth about the Great Divine Schism, then makes a DC 17 Wisdom check to bind the shards.
NPC Reactions
  • Sincere sacrifice: the Avatar lowers its voice and restores one failed platform.
  • A choice rooted in fear alone: the silver rain thickens and the next check has disadvantage.
  • A hero changes their declaration after hearing another: the Avatar accepts the revision if they explain why.
  • A hero refuses every sacrifice: the Avatar asks, "Then what do you expect the world to give you?"
  • The party reaches five successes: the Avatar bows and the titans fade into dawn.
