The Heart's lingering consciousness wants the party to align the broken plate with honest personal cost, not overpower the ritual.
Leverage
The broken heartplate is the only known path onward in Echo of Creation: The Fate of the Nova’s Heart.
Player Approaches
- Offer an Arcane Spell: Arcana DC 18.
- Speak a Divine Invocation: Religion DC 17.
- Present Scholarly Lore: History DC 16.
- Give Blood Sacrifice: lose 5 hit points, then Constitution save DC 15.
- State an Emotional Truth: Insight DC 16.
- Perform a Poem or Song: Performance DC 14; on a success, calm two weaker currents instead of one.
NPC Gambits
- Ask the altar what it fears.
- Place a hand on the heartplate and name the cost before rolling.
- Coordinate two characters in one contribution; one rolls and the other supplies a concrete detail, granting advantage once.
- Let the most exposed character narrate how their truth enters the Heart after four currents are calmed.
NPC Reactions
- A successful contribution dims one current and turns a rune green.
- A failed contribution makes the altar repeat the character's doubt in a stranger's voice.
- A voluntary sacrifice makes the heartplate throb in time with the character's pulse.
- A sincere confession stills the mist around that character.
- A successful song makes two weak currents fold inward together.
