Stop the Ashen Covenant from Taking the Ember-Coins
Read Aloud
The cracked brass engine jolts, and three ember-coins glow inside its open housing. Cultists hack at the locks while a scarred enforcer holds the catwalk, and small figures of living coal skitter through the smoke. A vent erupts beneath your feet as the engine starts to scream.

Battlefield Zones
1
Ward Engine Platform
Cracked brass ward engine on a raised circular platform; three ember-coins remain locked in its open housing.
2
Crossing Catwalks
Narrow iron catwalks cross a glowing channel; falling prone here leaves a creature hanging over fire.
3
Vent Ring
Ruptured vents belch fire and smoke; the zone is lightly obscured and deals 2d6 fire damage when it ignites.
Terrain Levers
- A chain can be dropped to block a 5-foot catwalk for 1 round.
- A ruptured vent can be sealed with a DC 14 Dexterity or Strength check, removing one fire zone.
- A character can vent the ward engine with a DC 15 Arcana check, ending the next hazard increase but taking 2d6 fire damage on a failure.
- Loose chains grant half cover until a creature moves more than 10 feet.
