A Note · May 2026

Built for one player.
Hopefully for you too.

I started CharGen because I was tired of prep nights. I wanted NPCs that felt real, settlements that made sense, monsters worth running. Somewhere along the line a lot of you joined in and a quiet tool turned into something I now get to wake up to.

A million images later, that's not a stat. That's a million little moments where a player leaned forward, where a session got quiet, where someone said "wait, can I keep this?" That belongs to all of you.

So here's the deal. Tell people about CharGen, anywhere public. I'll send you a free Session Summary or 150 gold, your pick. Two of you also win three months on the house. That's the entire competition.

Feature 03 · The Loot

What you take home.

Three things you can win. The middle one if you're on a paid plan; the right one happens the moment your entry lands.

Feature 04 · Why this exists

Why CharGen is still a one-person thing.

A hooded figure leans over a candle-lit desk taking ink-and-quill notes in a spellbook

Built for my own table

It started as a tool I wanted myself.

CharGen began as a Saturday-afternoon prep helper for the campaign I was running. The first NPC generator was for me. Most of what's here still gets used at my own sessions before anyone else sees it.

A small caravan winds along a road through a sweeping valley toward a distant citadel at dusk

Built for storytellers

A million stories. None of them the same.

Every NPC gets a backstory because backstories are what make a player lean forward. Every settlement gets a reason for sitting where it does. The thing I'm trying to make is imagination, not output.

Built with you

The roadmap is mostly your messages.

A lot of what shipped this year came from a Discord ping or a Reddit thread. Bestiary view, session prep flow, the new gallery. If you've ever sent me a screenshot at 2am, this giveaway is partly on you.
