Covenant of the Cinderbound Coins - AI-generated fantasy Hazard

Covenant of the Cinderbound Coins

The Ashen Covenant has bound the battlefield's Ember-Coins into a ritual engine. The hazard does not merely defend the relics. It turns every attempt to seize them into fuel, feeding on fire, blood, and broken promises. While active, the coins tremble toward the cult's altar and leave trails of glowing ash in the air.

A waist-high ring of blackened bronze seals surrounds the Ember-Coins. Each seal bears a different saint, tyrant, or forgotten fire spirit. Thin cracks between the stones glow with dull orange light, and ash drifts upward instead of falling.

Standard Engagement

Trigger

The hazard activates when a creature other than an Ashen Covenant initiate enters the ritual circle, touches an Ember-Coin, or damages one of the covenant seals. Once activated, it rolls initiative using Stealth.

Routine

The hazard acts on its initiative. On its turn, it performs the following actions in order: Cinder Lash, Magnetic Relic Pull, and Sootblind Pulse. It does not take an action if the central brazier is suppressed.

Reset

The hazard resets after 10 minutes if at least one covenant seal and the central brazier remain intact. It also reactivates when an Ember-Coin is returned to the ritual circle.

Cinder Claim

The hazard marks a creature that touches an Ember-Coin or fails a check to disable the hazard. The creature takes 2d6 persistent fire damage and is concealed by swirling ash until it removes the mark with a successful DC 24 Medicine, Religion, or counteract check. The mark ends automatically when the hazard is disabled.

Magnetic Relic Pull

The hazard draws one Ember-Coin toward the Ashen Covenant's ritual focus. If a creature fails to secure or remove a coin during its turn, that coin slides 10 feet toward the cult's altar, ignoring difficult terrain. A creature holding the coin can prevent this movement with a successful DC 24 Fortitude save.

Ashen Reprisal

When the hazard is destroyed rather than disabled, each creature within 20 feet takes 6d6 fire damage with a basic Reflex save against DC 24. A creature carrying an Ember-Coin is also knocked prone on a failed save.

Linked Covenant Seals

The hazard has three covenant seals, each occupying a 5-foot square around the ritual circle. A seal can be targeted independently and has AC 24, Hardness 10, and 18 Hit Points. Destroying a seal counts as one disable success, but a destroyed seal reforms when the hazard resets.

Ritual Power Source

The central brazier occupies a 5-foot square. While it is suppressed, the hazard cannot use Sootblind Pulse and its other routine actions deal half damage. The brazier has AC 22, Hardness 12, and 30 Hit Points.

Fuel of Betrayal

The hazard responds to broken vows, shouted battle cries, and acts of betrayal. The first time each round that a creature within 30 feet knowingly breaks a promise made during the encounter, the hazard gains 10 temporary Hit Points until the start of its next turn.

Description

The Ashen Covenant has bound the battlefield's Ember-Coins into a ritual engine. The hazard does not merely defend the relics. It turns every attempt to seize them into fuel, feeding on fire, blood, and broken promises. While active, the coins tremble toward the cult's altar and leave trails of glowing ash in the air.

Discovery

A character who studies the Ember-Coins or the surrounding seals can identify the hazard with a successful DC 24 Arcana, Occultism, Religion, or Thievery check. A critical success also reveals that the brazier is the hazard's power source and that removing the coins in the wrong order strengthens the backlash.

Archival Lore

The Ember-Coins were minted from the first coals taken from a dying phoenix. The Ashen Covenant learned that the coins cannot be carried away while a sworn fire rite remains incomplete. Their ritual engine uses the coins as anchors, converting resistance into heat and heat into prophetic ash.
