Grasping Cavern Roots
Magically animated roots lie dormant among the stones until a living creature enters their reach. They swipe at intruders, wrap around limbs, and tighten with crushing force while dragging victims toward the cavern wall.

Detection
“Pale roots thread through cracks in the cavern floor and walls, their surfaces slick with mineral moisture. They twitch when living creatures draw near, then lash out with startling speed.”
Standard Engagement
A living creature enters the root-choked area or moves within 10 feet of the exposed root mass.
On its initiative, the hazard makes one root lash Strike against the nearest creature within reach. It cannot Strike a creature that is already grabbed by it. If no creature is within reach, it remains dormant.
The roots become dormant 10 minutes after no creature remains within 30 feet. They reset automatically unless disabled or destroyed.
The hazard makes a root lash Strike against a creature in its reach. On a hit, the target takes 1d6+2 bludgeoning damage and is grabbed by the roots. A creature can Escape the grab with the normal action, using the hazard's Escape DC of 17. On a critical hit, the target is also knocked prone.
The roots occupy a 10-foot-by-10-foot patch of cavern floor and have a reach of 10 feet. The hazard can target any creature in that area or within 10 feet of its edge.
A creature grabbed by the roots is pulled 5 feet toward the center of the hazard at the end of its turn unless it Escaped during that turn. A creature cannot be pulled into an occupied space.
