The tale
The beholder's lair is a maze of ledges and narrow crevices overlooking a dark subterranean pool. Its hoard is not heaped carelessly: coins and gems have been sorted into little piles, strange curios occupy separate niches, and a few objects are positioned as if the creature wanted to keep them under constant watch. The party finds the more valuable items tucked behind a stone shelf, while damp and age have ruined much of the lesser clutter.
