Mauled Roadside Ambush

The wolf falls with a last, keening yelp at your feet. Nearby the body of a humanoid traveler lies half-dragged into the undergrowth, torn clothing and a battered journal scattered around them. The pack they carried has been ripped open, leaving a few usable goods and their coinage exposed. You recover a mix of practical gear, a small gemstone, and crude trophies taken from the wolf and the traveler. Nothing of great magical power remains, but the finds are enough to patch wounds, warm a night, and tell a story. The journal might reveal who the traveler was or where they were headed, and the wolf trophies could fetch a few coins with the right buyer or be fashioned into trinkets for the party.
