The Tale of This Treasure
After driving the aboleth from its vaulted, algae-choked chamber beneath the lake, the party hauled up a mix of common and unusual finds. The creature kept coin and coastal trinkets from its victims, several bright gems and pearls stolen from shipwrecks, and a few mundane pieces of jewelry taken as trophies. Among the expected valuables were a usable potion and a single-use spell scroll that will help in future underwater travel. The true prizes are the aberrant items: a vial of the aboleth's mucus, prized by unscrupulous alchemists, and a memory crystal that preserves a scrap of the aboleth's long and alien recollection. These unusual items hint at the aboleth's antiquity and are likely worth more to scholars or collectors than to a simple fence. The party can sell the obvious treasure at coastal markets, bargain the gemstones to jewelers, or bring the strange artifacts to sages who research aberrations.
