The Tale of This Treasure
After forcing the crocodragon from its sunken hollow beneath the mangrove roots and clearing the swampy antechambers of goblins and hobgoblins, the party pried open the predator's nesting cavity. Bones and half-rotted sails of pillaged rivercraft litter the den alongside a modest pile of trade coins, a handful of gemstones likely taken from caravans, a few useful potions and an enchanted short sword most likely seized from a fallen mercenary. Tucked between damp hides and a pile of scavenged trinkets lie a large iridescent scale—the prize of the beast—and a fang fashioned into a dagger by goblin craftsmen and crude hobgoblin runecarvers. The crocodile hides and lesser treasures suggest the lair served as a waystation for raids on river traffic rather than a true ancient dragon’s hoard, but the presence of dragonlike scale and the enchanted weapon hint that something more dangerous once visited this spot. The party can sell common items and gems, keep the magical gear for their own use, or attempt to craft the crocodragon scale into specialized armor or spell components with the proper downtime and tools.
