Its story
A narrow, heavy book bound in dark, salt-stained leather, its corners capped with dull brass. Its pages are pale and fibrous, with a faint mineral grit beneath the fingertips. Lines appear in the margins like impressions pressed from a page that was once there. When the Ledger reveals a lost line, the ink glimmers cool and blue-white, and the smell of wet stone rises from the open book.
Lore
The Unaltered Ledger is an artifact that bears witness to records changed or erased. It does not decide who deserves the truth, nor does it mend the harm a lie has caused. Its power grows when a lost truth is restored to the people it concerns.
History
The Ledger travels with those who challenge altered records and restore truths to the communities harmed by them. During The Quiet Below, it may awaken when the party reads the original Siltfall line to the families it harmed at the Debt Court, or when it reads the Founding Account to the Cults’ rank and file at the Hearth. Its earlier Dormant and Stirring stages retain their established properties; the Ascendant stage is reserved for Book 3.
