Its story
A coal the size of a fist rests inside a fist-sized cage of black iron, suspended from a stout chain. Its surface glows like banked copper beneath thin seams of ash, and its heat reaches the palm through the cage. When it stirs, the air carries the scent of hot stone and wet iron; tiny sparks lift from it and fade only when they pass beyond sight. At its unbound strength, its light swells into a steady golden radiance, while a low, measured pulse hums through the iron.
Lore
The Ember is a severed piece of Elyndra, Titan of Healing and Restoration. It is carried as the Unbanked Ember, its warmth shared among those close to its bearer. At its unbound strength, it shelters a wider circle and answers danger with a measured pulse. The reason it was severed, the purpose of the old engine, and the identity of the presence that answers the pulse remain unknown.
History
The Ember has passed through the events of The Borrowed Warmth and retains the properties it gained in Books One and Two. At the height of its power, as its bearer reaches level 20, it becomes an artifact. Its earlier history and the purpose of the engine connected to it remain unresolved.
