Its story
A broad, battered shield of dark slate plates riveted to a frame of salt-pitted iron. A length of old hoist chain crosses its face, hammered flat beneath a narrow strip of blue glass. Its edges are chipped and smoke-darkened. When its bearer plants their feet, the chain draws taut with a low, resonant groan, like a bridge taking weight.
Lore
The Line I Held commemorates a boundary kept when retreat would have been easier. In Anemora, where roads, lifts, and bridges decide who can reach safety, its lesson is remembered plainly: a line is not stone or iron alone, but the people who choose to stand together upon it.
History
The shield was assembled from salvaged stone and chain after a crew braced the Hanging Car's failing hoist by hand, refusing to abandon the crossing while travelers escaped. It passed among defenders of threatened roads and gates. Each time a bearer holds a physical line against a failing structure, the blue glass brightens and the chain's old links tighten into a new pattern.
