Its story
This compact shield is a disc of brushed brass, white ceramic, and dark glass, small enough to strap to a forearm or grip in one hand. A ring of tiny metallic vanes circles its center, clicking softly as they track nearby motion. When activated, the vanes flare open and cast a shimmering cyan dome around the wearer, its surface rippling like a soap bubble overlaid with fine geometric lines.
Lore
In stories told across the old trade roads, the Aegis is called the little wall that refused to fall. Its makers designed it not to make its bearer invulnerable, but to give them one more chance to stand between danger and someone who could not withstand it.
History
The first Aegis was built to protect the engineers who maintained the Meridian Foundry's unstable power core. During the Siege of Glassfall, Captain Ilyra Venn carried one through a storm of arrows and spellfire, holding a bridge long enough for hundreds of refugees to escape.
