Its story
This palm-length whistle is made of dark bronze, its mouthpiece shaped like a curled leaf and its body threaded with cloudy blue glass. When tilted, pinpricks of light drift through the glass like distant lanterns on a road at night. It plays a clear, low note that seems to come from just behind the listener.
Lore
Travelers say the whistle remembers every safe road it has ever helped someone find. Guides sometimes sound a single note before a journey, not to call for aid, but to remind themselves that even a long road is crossed one step at a time.
History
Mira-of-the-Mile made the first whistle for a caravan that had lost its way in a moonless mountain pass. Its later owners carried it through forests, ruined cities, and bad weather, passing it from guide to guide whenever one retired from the road.
