Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the avatar fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead. It can use this trait three times, and it regains all expended uses when it finishes a Long Rest.
Planar and Gravitational Anchor. The avatar and friendly creatures within 60 feet of it are immune to forced movement, teleportation effects cast by hostile creatures, and gravitational alteration effects.
Immutable Form. The avatar is immune to any effect that would alter its form.
Magic Resistance. The avatar has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Root-Strand Body. The avatar can move through a space as narrow as 10 feet wide without squeezing.

Actions

Multiattack. The avatar makes two Root-Smasher Strike attacks and one Ley-Core Pulse attack.
Root-Smasher Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 30 () bludgeoning damage plus 9 () force damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it is knocked Prone.
Ley-Core Pulse. Ranged Spell Attack: to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 28 () radiant damage plus 13 () force damage.
Gravitational Compression. Recharge 5–6. The avatar intensifies gravity in a 60-foot radius centered on itself. Each creature in that area must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 54 () force damage, is slammed to the ground, and is Restrained until the start of the avatar’s next turn. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage and is not Restrained.

Reactions

Ironwood Recoil. When a creature the avatar can see within 20 feet hits it with an attack, the avatar reduces the damage by 15. If the attacker is Large or smaller, it must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed up to 10 feet away.

Legendary Actions

Root-Smasher. The avatar makes one Root-Smasher Strike attack.
Root-Bound Shift. The avatar moves up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks. Its Planar and Gravitational Anchor trait remains active during this movement.
Conduit Flare (costs 2 actions). The avatar releases a concentrated ley pulse at one creature it can see within 120 feet. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 () radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Notes for the game master

Titan is a descriptive custom subtype, not a separate official creature type.
The avatar has no concentration or spellcasting traits. Its leyline abilities are custom supernatural features.
Its Planar and Gravitational Anchor trait protects the avatar and friendly creatures within 60 feet. It does not protect hostile creatures.
Gravitational Compression restrains affected creatures only until the start of the avatar’s next turn.

Tactics

  1. Opening

The avatar rises from the root lattice and uses Gravitational Compression when it can catch several intruders. It follows with Multiattack against the most immediate threat.

  2. Mid-fight

It uses its reach and bulk to hold enemies near the center of the battlefield, striking grounded targets and pulsing ranged attackers. It saves Gravitational Compression for clustered opponents or creatures attempting to reach a vulnerable ley-node.

  3. End of the fight

When reduced below one-third of its hit points, the avatar uses Gravitational Compression as soon as it recharges, then presses wounded foes with Root-Smasher Strikes. It does not flee while the confluence remains endangered.

  4. Retreat

The avatar will not retreat from its appointed junction. If the confluence is calmed or its purpose is fulfilled, it can sink back into the roots and cease fighting.

How it fights

Use Gravitational Compression when multiple enemies are in range.
Keep the avatar near the protected junction so its anchor trait safeguards nearby allies.
Use Ley-Core Pulse against enemies beyond reach and Root-Smasher Strike to knock down those closing in.
Use legendary movement to reposition without opening the avatar to opportunity attacks.

Who it attacks first

Creatures damaging the root-junction or ley-crystal node.
Melee attackers pressing into the avatar’s reach.
Ranged attackers who remain near a threatened node.

Works well with

A root-bound lair can offer cover and obstruct movement without granting the avatar additional damage.
Allies that can hold nearby routes make it harder for intruders to evade the avatar’s reach.

How to beat it

Its 20-foot reach and 60-foot compression radius reward ranged attacks, forced spacing, and careful movement.
A party can spread out to reduce the number of creatures caught by Gravitational Compression.
The avatar has no listed resistance to ordinary weapon damage, so sustained martial attacks remain effective.
Its immunity to hostile teleportation and forced movement is limited to the avatar and friendly creatures within 60 feet.

Ways to avoid a fight

It can communicate impressions of danger through tremors, changes in gravity, and images transmitted through nearby roots.
If approached without violence, it may permit a careful examination of the node or guide visitors away from a damaged route.
A creature able to reach an understanding with it may ask it to hold a passage stable while repairs are made.

Ecology

A towering figure of petrified ironwood strands, its trunk-wide limbs threaded with glowing, liquid-gold sap. Ley-crystal clusters churn through its chest and crown while rings of crushed basalt and radiant force circle its shoulders. Its movements grind like stone under pressure; the air smells of wet earth and hot metal, and each footfall sends a low vibration through the roots.

Behavior

It moves with slow, tectonic certainty, turning its crystal crown toward disturbances in the leyline. It warns intruders with a deep wooden groan and a sudden change in local gravity. It attacks those who damage the roots or approach a protected node, but may tolerate careful negotiation or repair work.

How it lives

Root-Singularity Avatars are rare manifestations of immense plant life, mineral growth, and leyline pressure. They do not reproduce or forage. They form when a root-junction requires a powerful guardian, then draw energy from the surrounding nexus and return to dormancy when danger passes.

Lair

The avatar’s lair is a root-bound chamber or open cavern where ironwood roots arch around a ley-crystal node. Gravity may tilt in patches, loose stones orbit high above the floor, and golden sap runs through channels in the walls. These environmental details are descriptive unless the DM assigns them a specific effect.

Habitat
World-Root Confluence, Core Node Ring, and ancient ironwood root-junctions beneath Verdara.

Signs that it is near

Basalt fragments circling in slow, steady orbits around a root-junction.
A smell of hot metal and damp soil rising from cracks in the floor.
Golden sap pulsing through exposed roots in time with a distant, heavy thrum.
Loose objects tipping toward a cavern wall as gravity subtly shifts.

Lore

At the Core Node Ring, the Avatar is understood less as a creature than as a response: an immense defense given shape when a vital root-junction is threatened. Some delvers claim its turning crystal crown tracks pressure changes before they reach the surface. Others say its sap carries impressions of every injury suffered by the roots around it.

What drives it

Preserve the root-junction and prevent damage to the leyline system it guards.

After the fight

When the avatar falls, its gold sap drains into the root channels and the orbital stones lose their fierce rotation. The surrounding ley-crystal may settle, crack, or flare according to the confluence’s condition and the party’s choices. A surviving fragment of the avatar’s awareness can linger in the roots, able to answer questions through tremors, shifting light, and the scent of warm sap.

“Some delvers claim its turning crystal crown tracks pressure changes before they reach the surface.”
From its lore

Variants

A dormant avatar may be rooted into the cavern floor, awakening only when a creature harms the node.
A wounded avatar may have cracked crystal clusters and reduced hit points, while keeping its core abilities intact.

Hooks

Plot hooks

A tremor pattern from the avatar warns that a distant root-junction is failing, but its message is incomplete.
A settlement’s safe route through the deep roots is closing as the avatar shifts into a defensive stance.
The party must determine whether the avatar is protecting the Core Node Ring from intruders or reacting to damage caused by an earlier expedition.

How to use it

Use as a climactic guardian at a world-root junction, with the party deciding whether to destroy, bypass, or persuade it.
For a challenging encounter, add terrain that shifts gravity or fractures under pressure, but telegraph each hazard before it resolves.
At CR 20, it is intended for a high-level party; calibrate the encounter for party size, magic items, and available rests.

Treasure

A ley-crystal splinter that can serve as evidence of the junction’s condition or as a component for a suitable magical repair.
Petrified ironwood and hardened golden sap, valuable to specialist crafters but difficult to harvest without harming the roots.
