Vespera Vance
Wizard, Star-Seer
Vespera Vance
Species
Human
Appearance
Vespera is a lean, sharp-featured human woman whose stillness feels more deliberate than restful. Her dark brown hair is braided close to the scalp on one side and left loose on the other, where several silver strands catch the light like wet wire. Her fingers are permanently stained with blue-black chart ink, while the skin around her knuckles bears tiny burns from overheated observatory instruments. She moves with economical precision, turning her whole body toward a sound rather than merely glancing at it. Her face is severe at first impression, yet her hands are unexpectedly gentle with injured birds, cracked lenses, and frightened apprentices. She leaves behind the impression of cold starlight, brass dust, and someone who has been awake for several nights too long.
“Low, precise, and unhurried. Vespera pronounces names carefully, pauses before predictions, and lowers her voice rather than raising it when angry.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass astrolabe with one ring that turns against the direction of gravity.
Permanent blue-black ink staining across both hands and beneath her fingernails.
A thin scar crossing the bridge of her nose from shattered observatory glass.
A silver thread woven through her left braid for every colleague lost to Collegium accidents.
Her left eye briefly reflects unfamiliar constellations when she uses Star-Seer's Portent.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry warmth, like a kettle beginning to sing in a cold stone room. When she delivers a prediction, her voice becomes almost whisper-soft, forcing listeners to lean closer.”
Clothing
A high-collared midnight-blue coat layered over a charcoal wool dress, both stitched with fine silver coordinate lines. Her sleeves are reinforced with leather at the forearms, and a weatherproof green mantle bears the small white pine emblem of the Starspire Collegium. She wears soft-soled boots, a brass astrolabe harness, fingerless gloves, and a cracked moonstone pinned inside her collar where only she can touch it.
Body Language
Vespera stands with one hand resting on the brass astrolabe at her belt and the other touching the nearest solid surface. When concentrating, she tilts her head as though listening to distant rain. Anger makes her exceptionally still. Fear reveals itself only in the tightening of her left thumb against her palm.
