Appearance
Orion Salt-Bane is a portly human man with the polished gravity of a prosperous undertaker and the watchful amusement of a cardsharp. His face is broad and carefully groomed, framed by a silver beard clipped into two precise planes beneath the jaw. When he eats, he chews with deliberate neatness, but when he laughs, his upper lip lifts just enough to reveal unusually square incisors and a small gold inlay on one lower tooth. He stands with his weight balanced on the balls of his feet despite his heavy frame, as though every floor might become a negotiation table that suddenly requires movement. His hands are soft from wealth but marked by ink at the cuticles, and he smells faintly of cedar ledgers, clove oil, and sun-warmed brass. The unexpected contradiction is his gentleness with fragile objects. He handles eggshell porcelain, old letters, and frightened children with extraordinary care, while discussing the ruin of a rival's livelihood in the same mild tone.
“His speech is smooth, unhurried, and precise, with an unexpected stress that often lands on the least important word in a sentence. He uses caravan idioms, legal terminology, and faintly archaic turns of phrase learned from old route-keepers.”

Distinguishing Features
Unusually square upper incisors and a single gold inlay on a lower tooth visible when he laughs
A brass tally-chain engraved with seven tiny balance scales, one for each Tally Seat
He shifts his weight forward while waiting, as though poised to step into a bargain before it closes

He wears seven silver rings, each bearing the seal of a different trade route
Voice
“A low, warm baritone with a dry rasp beneath it, like a quill dragged across thick paper. His laughter is brief and surprisingly bright, revealing the gold inlay on his tooth. When he is angry, his voice becomes softer, slower, and more intimate.”
Clothing
A deep indigo velvet doublet embroidered with fine gold trade routes, cream linen sleeves, a saffron waist sash, polished black riding boots, silver rings on nearly every finger, and a heavy brass tally-chain crossing his chest. His clothing is luxurious without being ostentatious, designed to imply that he has nothing left to prove.
Body Language
While waiting, Orion rests one hand atop his brass tally-chain and places his other hand flat on the nearest ledger, anchoring himself to the record. He leans slightly toward whoever speaks, making attention feel like approval, but his feet remain angled toward the nearest exit. His smile tightens before he lies. When truly angry, he removes one silver ring and sets it beside the contract under discussion.
