Appearance
Thora Iron-Fold is a compact dwarf woman with an unnervingly quiet presence. Her dark auburn hair is braided into four precise cords, each threaded with silver that catches the light like wire in a book spine. Sharp spectacles rest low on her nose, and her eyes move constantly behind them, measuring margins, hinges, stains, and people. Her hands are broad and powerful, but years of microscopic work have made the fingertips glossy and callused, with permanent black traces worked into the creases of her skin. She walks with a slight forward lean, favoring her left side as though forever reading a page held just beyond reach. She can remain perfectly still for several minutes while examining evidence, then move with startling speed when danger appears. The unexpected contradiction is her laugh, which is loud, bright, and almost girlish, entirely at odds with her severe expression and judicial manner.
“Low, controlled, and exact. Thora rarely raises her voice, but every word lands with the finality of a stamped order.”

Distinguishing Features
Permanently ink-darkened fingertips with polished, glassy pads from decades of handling parchment.
A double-knock ritual before opening documents, doors, boxes, letters, or even food wrapped in paper.
Silver-threaded braids that are arranged according to the current security classification of her work.
A slight leftward lean and nearly silent gait that becomes startlingly quick during danger.
A sudden, booming laugh that breaks through her normally severe demeanor.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry, resonant edge, like a quill scratching across thick paper. Her laughter is unexpectedly booming and warm.”
Clothing
A charcoal wool coat reinforced with hidden leather panels, a high-collared russet vest, layered linen sleeves, fingerless writing gloves, brass spectacles, soft-soled archival boots, and a belt carrying ink vials, sealing wax, magnifying lenses, and narrow tools. Every garment bears tiny stitched inventory marks known only to her.
Body Language
Thora keeps her shoulders squared and her head slightly lowered, as if perpetually examining a suspicious line of text. She taps twice before opening anything, presses her thumb against her lower lip while reasoning, and angles her body toward the nearest writing surface. When angry, she stops moving entirely. When frightened, she becomes extremely courteous and begins straightening nearby papers.
