Ulo
Ulo
At the table
Voice
Ulo's voice is mostly breath, throat, and teeth: rough huffs from a powerful chest, a low growl with a dry rasp, and sharp barks that carry across open ground. After a long run his breath catches audibly before settling into a steady pant.
Ulo does not speak. His communication is physical and immediate: a breathy whuff to summon, a clipped bark to warn, and a gravelly growl when he means to hold ground. His breathing is audible after a run, shaped by years of ranging over rough terrain.

How to play them
Let Ulo approach on his own terms. Calypso's calm presence earns trust; sudden movements, cornering, or reaching toward his collar make him retreat or warn with a growl. He responds best to a clear scent, a familiar voice, or an offered task that keeps him near Calypso.
Goal
Stay beside Calypso, understand the strange power that returned him, and make sure no danger separates them again.
Motivation
The familiar bond with Calypso is his anchor in a world that changed while he was gone.
Appearance
A rangy, long-legged wolf with a dense coat that looks charcoal-gray at a distance and resolves into bands of soot, brown, and silver up close. His winter fur stands in rough ridges along the shoulders, while the shorter hair on his muzzle is weathered and russet-flecked. He waits with his weight tipped forward over his forepaws, as if every pause might become a sprint. Within a minute, most people notice that he keeps nudging a small wooden bead at his throat back to the center of its cord.
Clothing
A worn leather collar fitted with a plain wooden bead on a short cord. The leather is softened by rain and rubbed pale where Calypso often touches it.
Body language
He holds his weight forward, ears turning independently toward small sounds. His tail hangs low when uncertain and lifts level with his back when he has chosen to stand his ground. He leans shoulder-first against Calypso when seeking reassurance, but steps between her and a perceived danger without looking back for permission.

Background
Ulo was Calypso's wolf companion long before the fall that separated them. On the day she fell, he was away tracking a wounded animal and returned to find only the signs of catastrophe and the absence of the person whose trail he knew best. He searched until exhaustion, then survived by ranging between settlements and avoiding people who saw a starving wolf as a threat. When Calypso accepted Bersuka Varkoi's mythic calling, the promise woven into that power drew Ulo back from wherever his search had taken him. He appeared at dawn, gaunt but unmistakably himself, and went straight to Calypso. He is still learning the altered scent of her and the strange tug of the force that returned him. He remembers the long absence as a trail that simply stopped, and remains wary of being left behind again.
Role in the story
