Ashbound Marshal Vane Blood-Anvil
Fighter, Eldritch Knight 13 / Paladin, Oath of Conquest 4
Ashbound Marshal Vane Blood-Anvil
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
A heavily armored, stocky dwarf commander whose presence makes a room feel narrower. Vane's blackened basalt-steel plate is layered in overlapping slabs, each one rough as cooled lava along the edges but polished smooth where countless hands have saluted it. Iron-grey hair rises in a severe military flat-top, while his scarred jawline pulls slightly to the left when he speaks. His slate-grey eyes are cold and unyielding, yet his armor is covered in tiny practical repairs rather than ornamental grandeur. A heavy iron service chain crosses his breastplate, each link stamped with the name of a soldier he personally buried. His rune-etched warhammer glows with tactical blue-white lightning and furnace heat. Despite his massive armor and broad frame, he moves with unsettling quiet, like a door closing in a stone fortress. The unexpected contradiction is that his gauntlets are lined with soft red wool, a private concession to aching hands and old battlefield injuries.
“Low, clipped, and precise. Vane rarely raises his voice because he expects people to listen the first time.”

Distinguishing Features
A scar pulls the left corner of his mouth upward, creating the appearance of a permanent half-smile.
His service chain contains one link for every soldier he failed to save.
His warhammer's runes flash in geometric patterns when he is assessing battlefield movement.
He has two missing fingertips on his left hand, replaced with hinged iron caps.
His armor smells faintly of hot stone, lamp oil, and red wool.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a faint metallic rasp, like gravel dragged across an anvil. When furious, his voice becomes quieter and more formal.”
Clothing
Massive basalt-steel plate armor with scorched-fissure heraldry, a dark ash-grey officer's mantle, iron service chain, reinforced red wool underlayers, and a plain command sash bearing no religious symbols.
Body Language
Vane stands squarely, feet planted as if expecting an earthquake. He turns his entire torso rather than merely his head, rests one gauntleted hand on his warhammer when judging someone, and taps two fingers against his service chain when calculating risk. When angered, he becomes unnaturally still.
