Bastian Sterling
Species
Rock Gnome
Appearance
Bastian Sterling is a compact rock gnome with the polished presence of a court minister and the restless hands of a pickpocket. His skin is the warm gray of river stone, smooth around the cheeks but ridged with faint metallic freckles at his temples. His narrow face is framed by immaculate copper-white hair, combed into a precise side part and perfumed with clove oil. One front tooth is visibly crooked, jutting inward at an angle that gives his smile a sly, almost unfinished quality. A polished silver crown cap covers it, engraved with tiny balance scales. He moves with quick, economical steps, never seeming to hurry even when everyone around him is panicking. His eyes are bright amber and constantly measure distance, exits, hands, and possessions. The unexpected contradiction is that his impeccable grooming cannot conceal the smell of hot engine grease that clings to his gloves and cuffs, a remnant of the scrap markets he secretly visits alone.
“His voice is smooth, quick, and lightly musical, with the careful rhythm of a practiced auctioneer. He lowers his volume when making threats, forcing listeners to lean closer.”

Distinguishing Features
A polished silver crown cap over one crooked front tooth.
Metallic freckles around both temples that glint under lamplight.
A thin scar running from his left ear to the corner of his mouth.
A gold-nibbed pen that he spins whenever someone lies.
A faint grease scent that remains despite expensive cologne.
Voice
“Silken and precise, with a faint rasp like coins sliding across a counter. His laughter is quiet, sudden, and genuinely warm only when someone surprises him.”
Clothing
Tailored midnight-blue and oxblood velvet coats stitched with subtle golden thread, a cream waistcoat, polished black boots, silver cuff links shaped like closed padlocks, gray silk gloves, and a narrow silver crown cap over his crooked tooth. His inner coat pockets contain more documents than weapons.
Body Language
Bastian maintains immaculate posture, tilts his head as if weighing a coin, and uses two fingers to tap imaginary columns in the air while calculating. When genuinely frightened, he stops moving entirely and grips his gold-nibbed pen hard enough to stain his glove.
