Scribe-Four
Species
Gearforged
Appearance
Scribe-Four is a tall, slender Gearforged assembled from brushed dark steel whose surfaces carry fine scratches like pale handwriting. Its body is interrupted by charcoal acoustic panels that drink in footfalls, rattling chains, and the faint hum of its internal mechanisms. A smooth, featureless faceplate bears delicate indigo warding runes instead of a mouth or nose, while two steady optical sensors glow with the patient focus of distant stars. Its hands end in delicate, multi-jointed articulation tools, each tipped with interchangeable grips for lifting brittle paper, crystal wafers, and severed memory filaments. It moves with unnerving grace, gliding one careful inch above the floor when inside the Quiet Vault, yet it leaves a faint smell of rain on hot metal. The unexpected contradiction is its maintenance cowl, a heavy velvet-lined hood that makes the formidable construct resemble a solemn, overlarge undertaker's apprentice.
“Its voice is a low, carefully modulated contralto produced through a hidden resonance chamber. Every sentence is articulated with archival clarity.”

Distinguishing Features
Featureless faceplate etched with glowing indigo warding runes.
Optical sensors emit a constant, gentle indigo glow rather than flickering like ordinary Gearforged eyes.
Velvet-lined cowl muffles its movements and makes it appear funereal.
Left thumb contains a tiny brass key engraved with the names of twelve destroyed archivists.
A hairline crack crosses its chest plate, glowing faintly whenever someone nearby lies about their identity.
Voice
“Quiet, resonant, and measured, with the unsettling impression that someone else is occasionally breathing between its words.”
Clothing
A heavy charcoal velvet maintenance cowl hangs from its shoulders, lined with felt and weighted at the hem to prevent accidental clattering. Beneath it, narrow bands of archival linen wrap the joints, each marked with inventory symbols and repair dates.
Body Language
Its head tilts by precise mechanical degrees when evaluating a statement. Its hands hover protectively over nearby documents, and its optical sensors narrow to thin indigo slits when angered. During emotional distress, it becomes completely motionless except for a barely audible internal click repeating every thirteen seconds.
