Brik
Monk, Way of the Open Hand with custom hunger-themed abilities
Brik
Species
Hunger-touched human
Appearance
Brik looks like a compact, weathered man assembled from famine and masonry. His movements are economical until he smells fresh food, at which point his stillness becomes predatory and his head turns before the rest of him. His mouth is too wide for his face, with square gray teeth that overlap like roof tiles. When he laughs, which is rare, his jaw unhinges by a finger's breadth and a second row of tiny teeth becomes visible behind the first. He always carries a palm-sized roof slate tied to his wrist with tarred cord. The slate is polished nearly white where his thumb has rubbed it over years, while its edges remain black with soot. His unexpected contradiction is that his hands are exquisitely gentle, capable of tracing a child's name in dust without smudging it, despite the monstrous appetite behind his teeth.
“Low, clipped, and nearly monotone. He pauses before names as if weighing them in his mouth.”

Distinguishing Features
A jaw that subtly unhinges when he bites or laughs, revealing a second row of small teeth.
A roof slate tied to his wrist, polished white at its center from constant rubbing and covered on the reverse with stolen names.
He leaves faint chalk fingerprints on objects he has examined.
His shadow sometimes reaches toward nearby food before he does.
His footsteps are nearly silent, but loose stones roll toward him as if drawn by gravity.
Voice
“A dry baritone with the rasp of chalk dragged across slate. His voice becomes almost gentle when speaking to frightened people, which makes his threats sound more intimate.”
Clothing
A sleeveless coat of layered black felt and stitched roof leather, wrapped forearm guards, soft split-toe boots, a belt of chalk tubes, and a high collar lined with tiny scraps of slate. Every garment is practical, but the inner seams are embroidered with fragments of names.
Body Language
Brik stands with his weight slightly forward, as though listening through the soles of his feet. He rarely blinks during conversations. When suspicious, he rubs the worn center of his slate with his thumb. When tempted, his lips part just enough to show the second row of teeth.
