Appearance
Dast is a narrow, long-limbed man who seems permanently caught between sitting down and standing up. His movements are slow but never clumsy, each gesture arriving after a quiet pause as though another unseen person has suggested it first. His face is plain enough to be forgotten, but his presence is not. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice that his eyes do not settle on faces. They drift instead to doorways, hands, empty chairs, and the spaces just behind someone's shoulder. His skin has the dull translucence of wax left near a cold window, and faint gray lines move beneath it when he casts spells, like writing being erased under paper. His hair hangs in soft, ash-brown ropes, always slightly damp at the ends. The contradictory element is his hands: broad, warm, and visibly well cared for, with clean nails and carefully trimmed cuticles, despite the rest of him looking neglected and exhausted. He leaves the impression of a man who has spent years trying not to disturb the dead by moving too quickly.
“His voice is low, dry, and intimate, with a soft intake of breath before nearly every answer. He speaks slowly enough that listeners often mistake thoughtfulness for hesitation.”

Distinguishing Features
His gaze repeatedly checks empty spaces behind people, as if making room for unseen companions.
Gray script briefly appears beneath his skin whenever he uses sorcery.
He carries a tiny brass bell that never rings when shaken, yet sometimes chimes by itself near the dying.
He smells faintly of rainwater, old paper, and medicinal herbs.
His shadow often remains seated or kneeling for a moment after he has moved.
Voice
“A quiet, breath-worn baritone that seems to come from a room farther away than the one he occupies.”
Clothing
A soot-black keeper's coat layered over faded hospice linen, with deep interior pockets filled with labeled strips of cloth. His sleeves are secured by dull brass clasps shaped like closed eyelids. A gray wool sash bears hundreds of tiny stitched names, while his boots are soft-soled to avoid waking patients or disturbing memorial ash.
Body Language
Dast leans against walls, doorframes, and furniture as if gravity is a personal obligation he is tired of resisting. He keeps one hand resting over his sternum when listening. In danger, he becomes completely still, with his head slightly bowed and his gaze fixed on the nearest exit rather than the attacker.
