Brackle Ossom
Commoner
Brackle Ossom
Species
Human, Varisian
Appearance
Brackle is a broad, compact Varisian man with the immovable shape of a harbor bollard, standing just under six feet but seeming wider whenever he folds his arms. Years of hauling crates, climbing wet stone, and working dockside have roughened his brown skin into a weathered, salt-dry texture across his knuckles and forearms. His black hair is cut close except for a narrow topknot tied with red thread, and his beard is trimmed into a blunt wedge that makes his mouth look permanently unimpressed. He moves with surprising economy, never hurrying unless someone else has already made the mistake of running. The contradictory impression is that he looks built to break doors, yet handles tavern crockery with the delicate care of a jeweler. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice the brass tally ring on his right thumb, polished bright except for one deeply worn notch where he rubs it whenever he is deciding whether someone is lying.
“His voice is low, dry, and even, with a Varisian cadence flattened by years of dockside bargaining. He clips the ends from words when impatient and pauses before names as if entering them in a ledger.”

Distinguishing Features
A bright brass tally ring on his right thumb with one deep worn notch.
A narrow red-thread topknot against otherwise close-cropped hair.
Hands roughened by rope, salt, and dock work, with unusually careful fingernails.
A habit of balancing a tavern cup on his knuckles while listening.
His beard forms a blunt wedge that makes every silence look judgmental.
Voice
“A low, dry baritone with a faint Varisian lilt, never hurried and rarely raised. When he is furious, his voice becomes softer and more precise.”
Clothing
A faded indigo work coat reinforced at the shoulders, a red-and-ochre Varisian sash tucked beneath a broad leather belt, dark trousers, tarred boots, and a sleeveless gray waistcoat with many hidden pockets. His clothing is clean but visibly repaired, with careful stitching at the cuffs.
Body Language
He plants both feet before speaking, rolls the brass tally ring beneath his thumb, and tilts his head only when someone says something he believes is stupid. When amused, he does not smile. He exhales once through his nose and begins cleaning an already clean cup.
