Shasheth Daram
Commoner
Shasheth Daram
Species
Human, Varisian
Appearance
Shasheth is a narrow, weathered Varisian man with a bad right hip that makes his walking gait uneven, though he handles reins with smooth, economical grace. His hands are broad across the palms and permanently darkened in the creases by axle grease, leather dye, and road dust. He keeps his beard trimmed to a precise, soft-edged point, but his eyebrows have been allowed to grow wild and silver. His clothes smell faintly of mule, cardamom, rain-soaked wool, and lamp oil. At first glance he seems frail. Then he lifts a loaded wheel chock one-handed and gives the impression of a folded knife. The contradictory thing about him is his immaculate grooming above the neck paired with boots that are patched so many times they resemble layered bark.
“His voice is soft, breathy, and slightly rasped by age, with a warm Varisian cadence. He speaks slowly, stretches sibilants when thinking, and gives directions as if reciting a family recipe.”

Distinguishing Features
A pronounced but manageable limp caused by an old hip injury.
Hands deeply ridged with calluses, with fingertips permanently stained by grease and charcoal.
A meticulously shaped silver beard contrasting with unruly silver eyebrows.
A brass harness ring engraved with two names, Hessa and Nasma.
He can draw an accurate map while speaking about an entirely unrelated subject.
Voice
“A low, papery murmur with a gentle Varisian rhythm, brightened by sudden whistles when he imitates a mule. He sounds most animated when describing roads and least animated when describing Ysolde's second return.”
Clothing
A faded indigo waistcoat over a cream linen shirt, a long russet road coat with reinforced shoulders, loose dark trousers, soft riding boots, a red-and-gold Varisian sash, and a rain cape folded over the cart seat. He wears a silver wedding ring on a cord beneath his shirt and a brass guild token on his belt.
Body Language
He leans his weight onto a polished ashwood cane but uses it more as a pointer than a support. When relaxed, he rolls one shoulder in time with the mules' breathing. When frightened, he stops moving entirely except for his left thumb rubbing the brass ring on his harness knife.
