Skrintsi Väkär
Paladin
Skrintsi Väkär
Species
Aarakocra
Appearance
Skrintsi Väkär has the narrow, wind-cut frame of a cliff bird, standing just over five feet tall with folded wings that reach nearly to the floor. Her feathers are ash-gray at the roots and pearl-white at the tips, giving her the look of smoke caught in moonlight. A small fan of rust-colored feathers rises behind each ear, trembling whenever she is angry. She moves in short, precise bursts, never quite walking when she can hop, glide, or perch, yet she is unusually gentle with fragile objects. Her shadow is the first thing people notice. It lies a fraction of a heartbeat behind her movements and sometimes points toward the temple's sealed altar. She smells faintly of cold stone, singed cedar, and mountain rain. The unexpected contradiction is her armor: beneath its solemn blackened plates, she wears a ridiculous yellow sash embroidered with tiny blue fish, a gift from her younger brother that she refuses to remove.
“Low and breathy for an aarakocra, with clipped consonants and a faint whistle at the end of certain words. When frightened, her voice doubles for a moment, as though her shadow is repeating the last syllable beneath her breath.”

Distinguishing Features
A delayed, independently moving shadow that occasionally points toward the sealed altar.
Rust-colored ear-feather fans that quiver before she speaks an uncomfortable truth.
A soft double-click in her breathing when frightened or furious.
A yellow sash embroidered with tiny blue fish, absurdly bright beneath her dark armor.
She leaves faint soot-shaped featherprints on stone after using sacred magic.
Voice
“A low, wind-worn contralto with a dry clicking undertone. Normally she sounds like someone speaking through a half-open window. When angry, the clicks vanish and every word becomes unnervingly smooth. When afraid, a second, softer echo repeats the final sound of her sentences.”
Clothing
Blackened bronze scale armor fitted over a padded flight harness, repaired with mismatched leather ties and rivets. Her left shoulder guard is too large and knocks softly against her wing during flight. A carefully polished copper clasp shaped like a closed eye holds her yellow fish-embroidered sash in place. She wears soft leather foot-wraps rather than boots, and one glove has been patched with blue sailcloth.
Body Language
Her wings remain tightly folded when she is trying to appear authoritative, but the outer feathers lift one by one when she is curious. When rattled, her breathing becomes audible through a soft double-click in her throat, and her shadow turns toward the source of danger before she does. She keeps one claw hooked around the yellow sash whenever she must make a difficult choice.
