Veyra Sovan
Paladin
Veyra Sovan
Species
Aarakocra
Appearance
Veyra is a lean young aarakocra with the long, balanced proportions of a wading bird and the compact strength of someone accustomed to landing on broken stone. Her plumage is mostly warm umber and cream, but the feathers along her shoulders have a faint soot-gray sheen that becomes visible only in direct sunlight. She moves with careful, almost ceremonial precision, placing each talon as though the floor might remember her weight. Her wings are broad and soft-edged, with several flight feathers cut short by old temple customs rather than injury. The unexpected detail is her constant smell of wet iron and sweetgrass, a contradiction to the dry, ash-choked ruin she guards. Within a minute of meeting her, people notice that she takes up more space than her body should, not through size, but through the slow unfurling of her wings whenever she is worried.
“Her voice is low for an aarakocra, rounded and breathy, with a soft clicking resonance at the ends of certain words. Before speaking, she usually draws in one slow breath through her beak, as though testing the air for an answer.”

Distinguishing Features
Her wings partially unfurl whenever she hears a secret, making a soft sound like a sail catching wind.
The tips of her talons are stained dark gray from years of tending the soot-black altar.
A thin ring of pale feathers circles the back of her neck like a collar made from moonlight.
Her shadow sometimes turns its head a heartbeat after she does.
She carries herself with solemn authority, yet keeps a small knitted red sock tucked into her belt for luck.
Voice
“A low, gentle contralto with a faint rasp like wind moving through a cracked bronze tube. Her words arrive after a deliberate breath, and even simple greetings sound like they have been weighed against an ancient promise.”
Clothing
A sleeveless cream tunic beneath a dark blue-green tabard stitched with concentric circles and three downward-pointing feathers. She wears leather bracers reinforced with thin bronze plates, a weathered belt of knotted prayer cords, and a short gray cloak that hangs from one shoulder. Her armor is deliberately light so her wings remain free.
Body Language
She stands with her wings folded tightly when confident, but one wing slowly loosens whenever she feels uncertain. She leans forward to listen, then retreats half a step before answering difficult questions. Her talons tap out a quiet three-beat rhythm against stone when she is deciding whether to trust someone.
