Wizard
Kata Vardész
Species
Human
Appearance
Kata is a slender young woman with long silver hair that reaches the backs of her knees, though it is rarely as orderly as it appears at first glance. The outer layers shine like polished wire, while the underlength is soft, frizzy, and faintly blue in certain light. Her vivid blue eyes are large and watchful, with tiny flecks of gray around the pupils that make her gaze seem rimmed with winter. She moves with careful, gliding precision until startled, at which point she becomes astonishingly clumsy and knocks into furniture, doorframes, and occasionally her own staff. Her face is fine-boned and serious, but a small dimple appears in her left cheek whenever she is lying. She gives the immediate impression of an untouchable ice princess, yet her sleeves smell faintly of lamp oil and sugared almonds.
“Kata speaks in a clear, restrained voice with clipped consonants and an unusual stress on the second-to-last word of important sentences. Her formal diction carries faint Hungarian and Greek influences without sounding foreign to Common.”

Distinguishing Features
A dented silver crown that is visibly polished only along the front edge, leaving the back tarnished and rough.
A crystal-headed staff whose brass ferrule is worn smooth exactly where her thumb rests.
Her long silver hair drifts slightly even in still air when she is thinking.
The lower edge of her gown is repaired with fine blue thread that forms accidental constellations.
She smells faintly of lamp oil, cold stone, and sugared almonds.
Voice
“A cool, precise mezzo-soprano that becomes surprisingly husky when she is tired. Her laugh arrives abruptly, as though it escaped before she approved it.”
Clothing
She wears an ornate silver and ice-blue gown patterned with angular elven motifs, but the garment has been altered repeatedly to survive travel. The hem is uneven, the right sleeve is reinforced with mismatched pearl-gray thread, and the left cuff is carefully embroidered with tiny snowflakes. Over it she wears a short mantle of translucent cloth fastened by a plain iron clasp. Her crown is not precious metal but thin beaten silver, dented at the back and polished obsessively at the front. Her boots are sturdy brown leather, practical, muddy, and completely at odds with the rest of her attire.
Body Language
Kata stands very straight when observed, holding her staff like a ceremonial object. When relaxed, she leans against it like a walking stick and tucks one foot behind the other. Her silver hair constantly drifts as if underwater whenever she is concentrating. She touches the worn brass cap of her staff before making difficult decisions.
