Garran Veyl
Fighter 5 / Paladin 4, Deathsworn Champion
Garran Veyl
Species
Human
Appearance
Garran is an enormous older human in battered black plate armor that was once bright paladin silver. The original repoussé work remains visible beneath layers of soot, dried blood, and necromantic lacquer, especially around the gorget and knees. Nerull's symbol has been cut over the old sunburst markings with deliberate, almost reverent precision. Thin seams of pale violet soul-light pulse between the plates when he moves. His face remains uncovered: weathered skin, gray-black hair tied low at the nape, a short rough beard, deep-set eyes, and the exhausted stillness of a man who has outlived everyone he intended to protect. He moves with careful economy rather than brute force, placing each foot as if the ground were a battlefield map. He smells faintly of cold iron, extinguished incense, and wet stone, a scent he does not notice anymore. The unexpected softness is in his hands, which are broad and scarred but extraordinarily gentle when tending armor, sharpening a blade, or touching the forehead of a dying ally.
“His speech is low, deliberate, and almost liturgical, with long pauses before emotionally important words. He never raises his volume when angry.”

Distinguishing Features
Pale violet light pulses through the narrow seams of his armor whenever Nerull is threatened.
The smell of cold iron, extinguished incense, and wet stone follows him even in dry weather.
His uncovered face is exhausted rather than monstrous, making his restraint more unsettling than rage would be.
The old silver designs beneath his black armor depict a heroic sunburst that has been carved over but not fully erased.
His voice is calm until someone speaks of Midnight, at which point his breath audibly catches before he regains control.
Voice
“A low baritone with a dry, worn texture, like gravel under velvet. His breathing is nearly silent when calm but becomes audible through his nose when angered. If genuinely frightened, he stops breathing for one long moment before speaking.”
Clothing
Ancient blackened full plate fused in places to his flesh, with surviving silver paladin ornament beneath the corrosion. A tattered black cloak hangs from his shoulders. He wears no helmet, keeping his face visible. A narrow strip of faded blue cloth, once part of Seren's traveling sash, is tied beneath one vambrace.
Body Language
Garran stands with his shoulders slightly forward under the weight of his armor, as though still sheltering someone behind him. He turns his whole body rather than only his head. His left hand often rests against the flat of Last Mercy, not gripping it but reassuring himself that it is there. When calm, his breathing is slow and nearly inaudible. When angered, the breath becomes audible through his nose, and violet light flickers more rapidly through the seams of his armor.
