Appearance
Hanspur appears as a broad-shouldered human man in his late thirties, though his face has the weathered patience of someone who has watched civilizations wash away. His skin is deep brown and permanently burnished by sun, river glare, and cold rain. His beard grows in thick, uneven clumps threaded with pale reed fibers, and his hair spikes outward like a bundle of wet rushes caught in a current. He moves with a boatman's rolling balance, never quite standing still, even on solid ground. His hands are remarkable: large, callused, and ridged with tiny pale lines where river reeds have cut him over centuries. They look capable of violence, yet he uses them with exquisite delicacy when handling a rat, a child, or a cracked clay cup. The unexpected contradiction is his smile, which is soft, shy, and almost domestic, utterly at odds with the sensation that floods rise when he enters a room.
“Low, conversational, and unhurried. His voice has the rough rhythm of a pole striking a riverbed, with sudden bright laughter that sounds strangely young.”

Distinguishing Features
Spiky, reed-like hair that remains dry even in heavy rain.
A beard threaded with living green shoots that slowly uncurl near water.
Hands heavily callused from a lifetime of rowing, rope work, and wet stone.
A wooden rat symbol worn smooth and dark by touch.
A faint smell of river mud, crushed mint, and rain on hot earth.
Voice
“A deep baritone with the rasp of wet rope, carrying a quiet undertow that makes listeners feel the floor tilt toward a river.”
Clothing
A sleeveless indigo river coat hangs over a rust-red wrap shirt and patched trousers tucked into soft leather boots. His coat is stitched with hundreds of tiny reed knots, each marking a crossing, a debt, or a person he carried to safety. A wooden rat symbol hangs at his throat, water-stained and polished smooth by constant handling.
Body Language
He leans slightly into nearby motion, as though gravity itself were flowing. His hands remain open unless he is protecting someone. When threatened, his shoulders settle and his head dips, giving him the stillness of a crocodile just below the surface.
