Vane Ash-Grip
Fighter, Battle Master
Vane Ash-Grip
Species
Tectonic Forged, Foundry-Tempered
Appearance
A massive humanoid construct of charcoal-black basalt plating, Vane Ash-Grip stands like a section of fortress wall given purpose. His armor is not smooth, but layered and pitted, with rusty iron joints flexing beneath the stone as he moves. Behind a reinforced ribcage burns a deep red Star-Sand core, its glow pulsing slowly enough to resemble a second heartbeat. He favors his left side when turning, not from injury, but because the right half of his frame houses an old load-bearing assembly that groans under sudden rotation. His movements are deliberate and economical, yet his hands constantly measure nearby walls, railings, and people as if judging their structural strength. The unexpected detail is his meticulous grooming: every iron seam is scrubbed clean, every basalt plate rubbed with black furnace oil until it shines like wet glass. He smells of hot metal, mineral dust, and bitter clove oil.
“His voice is deep, dry, and resonant, like a hammer striking a hollow furnace wall. He enunciates every name and number.”

Distinguishing Features
A deep crimson Star-Sand core visible through a reinforced ribcage, pulsing like a furnace heartbeat.
Basalt plating polished to an almost ceremonial sheen despite the grime of the Cinderfall Reaches.
A right-side load-bearing assembly that emits a low iron groan whenever he pivots sharply.
Brass worker-tags braided into his security sash, each one engraved with a name absent from the official Red Slab report.
He leaves faint warm footprints on cold stone for several seconds after passing.
Voice
“A low furnace resonance with a faint metallic overtone, controlled enough to sound almost calm even when delivering a threat.”
Clothing
A soot-dark security mantle hangs from iron clasps over his left shoulder, cut short to avoid machinery. He wears a red-and-copper sash bearing the seal of the Turning Bench, reinforced work straps, heavy furnace boots, and a ring of numbered brass tags taken from condemned workers.
Body Language
Vane stands squarely, with both feet planted and his shoulders held level. He turns his entire torso rather than merely his head. During negotiations, one hand rests against his chest cage over the Star-Sand core, while the other traces small measurements along nearby stone. When angered, he does not raise his voice. He stops moving entirely, and the furnace-light in his chest brightens.
