Appearance
Eldra Pale is a tall, weathered woman with the posture of someone forever balancing on a shifting deck. Her skin has the dry, pearled texture of sea salt left on driftwood, and tiny pale freckles cluster across her knuckles like foam bubbles. Her hair is meticulously braided into six thin ropes, each bound with blue thread and small fish vertebrae, though the ends are always damp even in desert air. She moves with a slow, rocking sway that becomes startlingly graceful when she sings. Her most noticeable possession is a battered concertina, its black leather bellows worn smooth only where her left thumb rests. Despite her name and ghostly reputation, she dresses with almost vain precision and smells faintly of lemon oil, wet wool, and extinguished candles. The contradiction is that her hands, famous for summoning the dead, are unusually gentle and constantly occupied with mending torn clothing, broken nets, or cracked teacups.
“Her voice is low, smoky, and oddly intimate, with the rhythm of a song performed below deck during a storm. She pauses before names, as though checking whether the dead are listening.”

Distinguishing Features
Six perfectly maintained braids threaded with blue cord and fish vertebrae.
A battered concertina with one ivory key permanently stained dark gray.
A constant faint scent of lemon oil, wet wool, and cold seawater.
Her shadow occasionally shows the outline of a sailor standing behind her.
She rocks subtly as if standing on a deck, even on solid ground.
Voice
“A low contralto that sounds dry and close, as if spoken beside the listener during a storm. Her singing voice carries impossible distance without growing louder.”
Clothing
A high-collared charcoal coat patched with sailcloth, a sea-green waistcoat, salt-stiff trousers, and polished black boots with brass heel plates. She wears a string of tiny glass floats around her wrist and keeps a red scarf tucked inside her collar for luck.
Body Language
Eldra leans toward people as though listening through heavy wind. When suspicious, she folds her hands over her concertina and rocks from heel to toe. When sincere, she stops moving entirely, which is rare enough to feel ceremonial.
