Ilyra Vane
Wizard, Order of Scribes
Ilyra Vane
Species
Human
Appearance
Ilyra is a composed human woman whose stillness feels engineered rather than natural. Her face is narrow and weathered around the mouth, with sharp dark eyes that track hands, exits, and unsecured tools before they ever settle on a speaker. Dark hair, threaded with premature silver, is pulled into a severe braid tied with copper wire. Her robes are charcoal-gray and coarse as furnace cloth, yet their seams conceal dozens of precise inner pockets. She moves with careful economy, turning corners close to walls and placing each foot as if the floor might suddenly become a trapdoor. The unexpected softness is in her hands, which are broad-palmed and scarred like a machinist's, with ink beneath every fingernail and a child's painted brass bead tied around one wrist.
“Low, measured, and clear, with clipped technical phrasing. She pauses before important nouns, as if checking whether the word itself is safe to use.”

Distinguishing Features
A heavy mechanical astrolabe ring covers her right thumb and clicks softly whenever she thinks.
A pale burn scar crosses the left side of her neck in the shape of branching script.
Her braid is bound with copper wire stripped from the first relic breach she survived.
She carries a small painted brass bead from a dead child in the Collapse of Nine, though she tells people it is merely a counterweight.
Her left sleeve contains a hidden emergency pull-cord connected to a whistle inside her collar.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry rasp, like paper dragged across a metal edge. Her words remain audible over machinery because she never competes with noise, she waits for the instant between pressure releases and speaks then.”
Clothing
Heavy charcoal work-robes reinforced at the elbows and knees, a soot-dark undershirt, steel-capped boots, fingerless gloves, a narrow utility belt, and a weatherproof mantle clasped with the Ebon Blueprint's broken-circle seal. Her hidden pockets contain cipher-slates, decoding lenses, brass sealing wax, chalk, wire, and folded evacuation maps.
Body Language
Ilyra keeps her shoulders square and her hands visible, but her right thumb constantly turns the mechanical astrolabe ring through tiny, precise increments. In anger, she becomes quieter and begins aligning nearby objects with the edge of the nearest table or wall.
